07/22/04 As many of you already know, back in May we began a public beta test of a software plug-in for X-Plane.  This beta test is going extremely well, and today we're pleased to announce the Beta 2 release of the plug-in, which includes some very significant new features.

The new features in Beta 2 include a built-in configuration interface, which allows you to make all function assignments, change them, and test them, while the simulator is running.  All GoFlight modules are now supported including the newest GF-46.  One of the coolest new features is control for up to 8 individual aircraft engines.  This means that when flying X-Plane's B-52, you can use two GF-TQ6 units to control each of the B-52's eight engines individually.  To our knowledge this is the first time this has been possible with ANY off-the-shelf flight simulator software OR hardware!  So for those of you with an extra $399.95 lying around and a love for the ol' BUFF, its time for that second TQ6!

Other new functions include control of EFIS and ECAM (or EICAS) modes, symbology, etc. on the larger passenger jets, completely configurable knobs and buttons on the GF-MCP, including functions like LNAV and VNAV.  The GF-46 can run up to 8 simultaneous avionics modes.

The new Beta 2 version of the X-Plane plugin is now available for download on the Support page.

02/20/04 A new MagLabels section has been added to the Support page.  In this section, we'll be making available some new MagLabels sets that can be downloaded and then either directly printed, or customized for use in your home cockpit.  Many thanks to Johan van Wijngaarden of the Netherlands, who uses 15 -- yes, 15 GoFlight® modules in his home cockpit!  As you might imagine, Johan saw the need for additional labeling of his modules, and has created an outstanding set of MagLabels that we are now able to share with all our customers.
02/15/04 With the recent release of FSUIPC version 3.20, Pete Dowson has included some exciting new control possibilities for owners of all GoFlight® GF-AC modules.  These include the ability to key-map the switches, knobs and buttons found on these units, control Flight Simulator functions, and even communicate with FS add-on products such as those offered by Project Magenta.  Visit the GoFlight® Forums for information about how these powerful capabilities are being used by your fellow sim pilots.

For more information about FSUIPC, or any of Pete's other excellent software utilities, you can visit his Web site by clicking here .
01/23/04 Release 1.32 of GF-AC software is now available for download from the Support page.  Several issues have been addressed in this release, including TQ6 range and linearity, spoilers operation, and key mapping.
12/04/03 To address some recently reported issues with GF-TQ6 control lever calibration, we have posted GF-AC software Version 1.31.  If you are a GF-TQ6 owner and have had difficulty with calibration settings staying constant or with levers not providing full range control while flying, please download and install this update.  It's available now on the Support page.

One other commonly-reported issue with the TQ6 and FS2002/2004:  When the control levers are operated, there is some unexpected activation of other cockpit functions or aircraft yaw/pitch/roll movement.  The reason this happens is that FS2002/2004 has assigned some default functions to the TQ6 main control levers and switch levers.  Because the TQ6 is a new product and did not exist when FS2002 and FS2004 was released, these sims don't know what reasonable default settings for the controls on the TQ6 might be.  To fix this, we have created some default settings that you can manually paste into the FS DEVICES.CFG file.  Adding these settings to the DEVICES.CFG file allows you to tell FS what default function you want to assign for each TQ6 control (or none, if you prefer to use GFConfig.)  We supply four different files that each contains one typical default throttle configuration.  You can then choose the one that best fits the aircraft you most often fly.  The files are located in a folder named FS Device Configs on the root folder of Pre-Flight Disks version 1.29 and newer, and also included in the Net download.  Along with the actual configuration data, these files contain easy-to-follow instructions.  If you plan to use GFConfig to set up function assignments for all TQ6 controls, we recommend using the configuration in the file called TQ6_killjoy.cfg which removes all function assignments to the main control levers and switch levers for both Normal and Slew modes.  This is the most straightforward, and popular, setup.
11/10/03 GF-AC software Version 1.30 is now available for download from the Support page.  This release includes some nice new features for the GF-166 and GF-RP48 units.  For those of you who have the GF-TQ6 throttle quad, an updated calibration panel is included that should work much better than the one on your 1.29 CD.   Two new on-line help pages for the GF-RP48 and the GF-TQ6 have been added.  The README.TXT file included in the release package lists all of the changes since the last version.
07/31/03 Since the release of the version 1.27 GF-AC update two days ago on July 29, we've gotten some PIREPS regarding difficulty with the GF-45 and GF-166 function select assignments for pushbuttons, and also with operation of the GF-166 ADF.  Doyle fixed these issues today and we have posted a new full software update, Version 1.27b, on the Support page.

If you have already downloaded and installed version 1.27, we recommend that you download and install 1.27b right "over the top" of 1.27.  This will preserve any function assignments you may have already made and will update the files to the latest versions.  You will be able to identify version 1.27b by the caption in the SETUP.EXE install dialog, which shows the version number as "1.27b."
07/29/03 For those of you who are just now getting your copy of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight, you'll be happy to know that you can use all of your GoFlight® gear with it from Day One!  Now available on the Support page is Version 1.27 of the GoFlight® cockpit control software.  Along with FS2004 support, there are a few other new features: direct selection of GF-45 DME modes via P8 buttons are included now, a new ADF card adjust feature for the 166, and GF-P8 key mapping for FS2004 as well as for FS2002.  Click on over to the Support page to download Version 1.27.
03/21/03 I'm pleased to announce the posting of the latest software update for the GoFlight® cockpit control system -- Version 1.26 -- now available on our Support page.  Many thanks to our loyal customers who have been patiently waiting for this, and also to those brave souls who have been beta-testing the underlying drivers for quite some time.  In this release I am excited to give you a glimpse of our powerful new key mapping software technology, but still rather limited in scope.  It required some extra time to redesign GFConfig's P8 configuration view UI, and create a bunch of new UI graphics, to make it intuitive to use.  This release introduces key mapping for the GF-P8 when used with Flight Sim 2002.  Follow-on releases will pick up support for the other modules.  The really significant application of this will come later this spring when I'll release a program called "GFKeys" -- which uses this same key mapping technology -- and gives you the ability to use all of your GF devices with every game on the market -- combat sims, mech games, racing, even Train Sim!  Key mapping makes it possible.

Though the README file says it all, here is a quick summary of what's new in 1.26 (besides key mapping) for those who would rather read it here:

  • New DME1 and DME2 functions for the GF-45.  Two new reasons to keep that trusty '45 in your rack!
  • An additional ALTM subfunction in INST mode displays altimeter in millibars, and you can change the setting in millibars also.  The original display and adjustment option in inches of mercury is still there so you can display or adjust in either unit.
  • I replaced the NAV1_FREQ_OBS_SEL and NAV2_FREQ_OBS_SEL left/right functions for the GF-166 with a single function, similarly named -- NAV_FREQ_OBS_SEL.  This one acts upon whichever standby freq and OBS is associated with the NAV radio that the '166 is currently emulating.  The nice thing about this is that if you use the NAV1_NAV2_TOGGLE assignment to switch NAV radios, or use P8 buttons to do it, you can now adjust both OBS1 and OBS2 using this single function.  It's a lot less confusing.
  • A long-winded explanation of key mapping in the on-line help, along with some minor changes to the function summaries to list the new functions and how they work.
  • For the P8, I've added a function called ALTIMETER_SET_LOCAL which sets your altimeter to the locally-reported setting for whatever area you happen to be flying in.  Incidentally, I had some PIREPS that the ALTIMETER_SET_STD function was busted in 1.25.  I checked it and sure enough, it was doing what ALTIMETER_SET_LOCAL does now.  So ALTIMETER_SET_STD has now been fixed, so when you use that one your trusty altimeter will now show 29.92 (or 1013.2) just as you expect.
  • The P8 functions NAV1_FREQ_OBS_SEL and NAV2_FREQ_OBS_SEL have been tweaked so that the LEDs for the associated buttons will now light when the radios are in FREQ setting, and unlit when in OBS setting.
  • Brightness level management for all modules has been redesigned to include the '166 and the 'MCP, and there are now 22 different levels to accommodate deltas in brightness selection set on the individual modules in GFConfig.  Long story short--I think you will now like the way the brightness levels work much better than before, if not let me know!

Of course, there is still a HUGE to-do list of new software features, support for new sims, new programs, etc... updates and news should be getting a little more frequent now -- and by all means feel free to let us know what you would like to see next, at customerservice@goflightinc.com . Also we will soon be adding a page to the site with pictures of some way-cool customer cockpits, so send one to us if you would like your 'pit to be included!
